Oops!

That was my life several years ago. I was working full time and teaching several fitness classes a week, sometimes up to 3 a night. Up at 4am, I would drive to my day job to clock in at 5a. Going in so early allowed me to leave at 2p, so I could teach evening fitness classes. Unfortunately, I would use those afternoon hours to go home to sleep for a couple hours before getting up, driving back to town for my  fitness classes that evening. Then I would come home, shove something edible in my mouth, grab a quick shower and drop into bed, only to wake up in the morning as exhausted as when I went to bed. I thought I was out of shape and just needed to do more cardio, more strength training and I would feel better, but it wasn't working.

A friend suggested I get blood work. I didn't see a need for it. After all, I wasn't sick; I was just getting older. Finally I did. And the diagnosis was adrenal fatigue. What the heck is that? The doctor explained that your adrenal glands produces cortisol, the fight or flight hormone. When you are chased by a bear, you need cortisol to kick your butt into gear so you can flee!

Cortisol is the hormone that gets you up in the morning. It replenishes overnight, then as the day progresses, the levels drop. You get tired in the evening, go to sleep and the body makes more. Sounds like a great system, huh? Until it goes wrong. Day after day of continual stress at work takes its toll. Add to eat the stress from a poor diet and too much exercise, and it set me up for disaster. Apparently, I had been under stress long enough, that my body said 'nope...no more cortisol'.

My friend, a nutritionist, helped me clean up my diet. Now I was eating plenty of protein and whole foods, very little sugar and avoiding processed foods. While it helped my blood work look awesome, I was still tired and had trouble sleeping at night. That same friend suggested I try an essential oil combo that worked for her. She gave me the concoction and told me to put 1 drop on the bottoms of my feet. 'What kind of hippy voodoo crap is this?', I thought. But she was a friend and I trusted her, so I tried it. The next morning when I woke up, I was refreshed and thought to myself that it couldn't have been that stuff! It had to be a coincidence. Maybe my mind was playing games? Placebo effect? So I tried it again the next night, then the next. And it still worked!

Now my life is so different. Exhaustion no longer plagues me and I feel so much different. And I'm open to other ideas and solutions that I poo-pooed before. :)

Now I'm on a mission to help others. Be a part of our group where we exchange knowledge and have a few laughs along the was!
